Every country has that one food thing, that you can't get anywhere else on the world as good as there. But as much as I love the German cuisine, there was one thing that I really missed during my travels. It might sound really banal and unspectacular, but it was the spread you can see on this picture here. It's called "Quark" in German. When we have been in Australia I tried to explain the taste of it to my bf (who's from England and didn't know it back then, but loves it now as well), loads of times, but there is nothing really to compare it with. It is kinda like yogurt, but not really, and kinda like cottage cheese, but not really. It is a bit like cream cheese but a lot lighter, you can use it for baking cheese cakes or you can buy it with parsley in it (my favorite) and have it on toasted bread.
I don't know if you guys knew, but Germany definitely has the best bread in the world. We have about 600 different kinds and some of them have the most amazing crust. I totally love bread. And i totally love to spread quark onto it. To make the whole thing even tastier, I like to add some chopped spring onion and fresh parsley. And of course a nice pinch of salt and pepper. Super delicious.
